Dispatch Operations Associate (Australia)
Are you passionate about the decarbonization of the electric grid? Are you interested in learning about how distributed energy resources play a critical role in the grid of the future? The Dispatch Operations team at Voltus is looking for an Associate who is passionate about delivering MW to the grid during dispatches. These dispatches are called when the grid needs Voltus to take action, and the Dispatch Operations team quickly activates our portfolio of distributed energy resources in various programs across North America.
In this role, you will become knowledgeable about grid operators and utilities in North America, you will interact regularly with large industrial and commercial energy users, and you will build a foundation of operations experience across diverse systems and processes. This rapidly expanding landscape requires constant scrutinization of our processes, systems, and tools to efficiently deliver on dispatches. You will have the opportunity to both lead tactical responsibilities and support strategic projects, and you will be part of an exceptional team that is laser focused on combating the climate crisis.
We are a 24/7 team, and we are looking for Associate candidates in Australia, because the Eastern time zone provides strategic coverage during the North America "night". The role is shift-based and your availability and reliability are critical to succeed in this role; however, this role is remote, which means: no commute! We are looking for candidates who can work 8-hour weekday shifts between 9am AET - 7pm AET and provide occasional spot coverage. This role will report primarily to the Sr Director of Dispatch Operations, and there are some responsibilities for which this role will report to the Market Operations Manager.
Primary Responsibilities
- Maintain a state of readiness to receive dispatches from grid operators and utilities
- Become an expert in executing dispatches across grid operator and utility programs
- Maximize customer participation in dispatches through a dispatch management process that makes customer participation simple and successful
- Support the optimization of customer site offers in real time and day-ahead markets
- Lead seamless internal communication during dispatches, leveraging other internal team members in support of the shared goal for flawless dispatches
- Capture lessons learned following a dispatch
- Track and follow through on any customer inquiries or issues
Secondary Responsibilities
- Monitor market participation and take necessary actions to ensure Voltus market compliance. Regularly audit our offers portfolio to locate any sub-optimal offers schedules
- Become an expert in offer management in the ERCOT and AESO wholesale markets
- Support process documentation, internal and external, stakeholder communications, and customer readiness
- Protect our revenue by identifying and correcting process errors
- Own our internal grid conditions monitoring system and drive actions that prepare internal teams and customers to be ready for dispatches at critical times
- Create and deliver seasonal communications and readiness alerts to customers in partnership with Voltus's Customer Success team
- Oversee our data requests to utilities, and create a robust system to ensure data collection processes are timely and meet internal and external financial settlement timelines
- Take ownership of reporting tools and ad hoc analysis projects, supported by a fluency in at least one of Google Sheets, Python, and/or SQL

We're searching for an Energy Markets Analyst to join our world-class team. This exciting opportunity will provide broad exposure to all that Energy Markets does: from working with Finance on revenue planning and financial reporting, to pushing for market changes with Regulatory Affairs, to educating and equipping our Sales team, to collaborating with Product and Engineering teams to develop market- and customer-facing products - and much more. There will be an initial focus on data management and optimizing how we handle data, as well as program management. The ideal candidate will be able to grow into developing market strategy and supporting regulatory advocacy. This multifaceted position plays an integral role in helping our customers profit from their involvement in energy markets. There is an opportunity for this role to be a Senior Energy Markets Analyst, depending on the relevant experience of the candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Understand the role of demand response and other distributed energy resources in the various energy markets in which we operate and translate that understanding into messaging for sales and regulatory advocacy.
- Become an expert in Voltus’ data architecture and processes and how they can be leveraged to scale energy markets’ operations, from asset enrollment to financial settlements
- Develop analytical tools to support the operational needs of our market activities as well as the customer-facing needs of our Sales and Marketing efforts
- Define and implement processes and procedures to support flawless execution of our day-to-day responsibilities and market activities, including auction and asset optimization analyses
- Work across teams, including Sales, Finance, Product, and Operations to improve the profitability of our market-specific portfolios

The Role

This exciting opportunity will provide broad exposure to all that Energy Markets does: from working with Finance on revenue planning and financial reporting, to pushing for market changes with Regulatory Affairs, to educating and pitching with our Sales team, to collaborating with Product and Engineering teams to develop market- and customer-facing products - and much more. This multifaceted role is responsible for managing Voltus’s growing distributed energy resources (DER) portfolio in the ERCOT market. The Senior Manager would oversee a team of three. This is a remote role and you can work from anywhere, with the ability to engage in market-facing activities and to hold meetings with coworkers and stakeholders during continental US-based business hours. Candidates must be in the Eastern or Central time zones, or be willing to work early morning Central hours over the summer months.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of talented analysts, a manager, and interns to manage all energy market activities for ERCOT market programs, including asset registration, position management, settlement, and ongoing portfolio optimization.
- Serve as the subject matter expert on the demand response programs you manage. Colleagues will look to you for a deep understanding of market rules and participation requirements.
- Contribute to the analytical tools your team uses to support the operational needs of our market activities as well as the customer-facing needs of our Sales and Marketing efforts.
- Define and implement processes and procedures to support flawless execution of our market activities, including auction and asset optimization analyses.

Key Responsibilities

- Prospect for new business, develop relationships with key decision-makers, understand customer needs, and report on account activity
